CALLAWAY FAMILY PAPERS


The collection of eighteen miscellaneous items pertaining to the Callaway family contains copies of two letters signed by Colonel James R. Callaway, dated June 1828; photostatic copies of a militia roll of the Fifth Regiment, First Brigade, of Pontotoc County, Confederate States of America, dated 1863; photostatic copy of a portrait of Stephen Gallatin Callaway, who served under Nathan B. Forrest in the Confederate Army; a copy of resolutions on the death of Professor Morgan Callaway, a member of the faculty of the University of Texas for 46 years, dated 1935; a copy of a letter signed by William A. Slaton, Attorney, Washington, Georgia, dated March 30, 1951; copies of two letters signed by Inez Callaway Robb, 235 East 45th Street, New York; 17, New York, dated September 7, 1951, and November 14, 1951; and a photograph of the tombstone marker of the Reverend Thomas C. Stuart, founder of the Monroe Church, Pontotoc County.
