DAVIS LAND COMPANY PAPERS


Broadside, stock certificate, letters of credentials of the Davis Land Company, organized in 1889 to buy about five thousand seven hundred acres of land in Arkansas, belonging to Jefferson Davis, for development and to enable Mr. Davis to pay some $40,000 worth of debts. The company was duly incorporated, and its officers were W. L. Hemingway, president; S. S. Calhoun, vice-president; D. P. Porter, secretary; and S. S. Carter, treasurer.
