DEHAY (ELIZABETH NORTON) PAPERS

Papers, mainly correspondence, of Elizabeth Norton DeHay written by members of her family and friends. Mrs. DeHay, of Houston, was the wife of P. S. DeHay. Earlier she had taught the adopted children of J. K. Kearney, uncle of Belle Kearney. Included in the collection are letters written while Mrs. DeHay was a student in a Catholic school for girls. These give an insight into school life in the 1850s.

Twenty-eight items cover the period 18611865 and give accounts of civilian and military life. One letter in this group describes the appearance of Generals Beauregard and Stuart and a General Johnson. Also in the collection are numerous newspaper clippings concerning the deaths of James Money Vardaman and James Kimble Vardaman.
