Z 0481.000 Kinchloe-Bishop Family Papers

Miscellaneous papers of John Bishop (1810–1880) of Star Place, Panola County, and members of his family. Bishop was born in Georgia and moved to Panola County where he became a prominent planter. Dr. David Anderson Kinchloe was born in Kentucky, moved to Mississippi and practiced medicine, first at Belmont and then at Sardis. In the Mexican War he was assigned as assistant surgeon to the Second Regiment, Mississippi Volunteers, and afterwards was placed in charge of the hospital at Buena Vista. During the Civil War he served as chief surgeon on Major General Withers' staff.

The papers include deeds of land bought by Bishop, family correspondence, funeral notices, invitations to balls and parties, bills, tax receipts, and receipts for the sale of cotton. The correspondence is distributed by dates as follows:
