Letters and papers of Jesse Rubel Kirkland, Brandon, who was appointed assistant commissary with the rank of captain in the Fourteenth Regiment of Mississippi Volunteers, Provisional Army of the Confederate States, on May 17, 1861; who was transferred to the Sixteenth Regiment of Mississippi Volunteers late in June 1861; and who died in Charlottesville, Virginia, on June 12, 1862. Sixty-four pieces of the collection are letters written by Captain Kirkland to his wife, Lucinda Kirkland, from Jackson and Corinth and from Tennessee and Virginia.
