FAIRLY (ARCHIBALD) DIARY
MDAH only has microfilm. (MF Roll # 36028)
Copy of original diary of Archibald Fairly of North Carolina. This diary was kept during the first quarter of 1825 while Fairly was enroute from Red Bluff, Marlboro County, South Carolina to New Orleans, Louisiana, collecting on accounts for his firm. These accounts resulted from the loaning of money to settlers who needed it for their new life in the Southwest (Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana). Fairly entered Mississippi from St. Stephens, Alabama, into Winchester, Wayne County on March 5, 1825. He makes mention of the old Federal Road and of his staying in the John Ford home.
