MONTGOMERY (JOSEPH A.) AND FAMILY PAPERS


Letters of James Smylie, of Amite and Wilkinson counties; his daughter, Mrs. Amelia F. Montgomery; and his son-in-law, Joseph A. Montgomery, of Amite, Claiborne, and Wilkinson counties. Seven of the letters were addressed to and three were written by Smylie, eight were addressed to and one written by Amelia F. Montgomery, and seventeen were addressed to and three were written by Joseph A. Montgomery. Two letters were written from Oakland College by James Montgomery and five letters were written by Mat Bolls. The Smylie, Montgomery, and Bolls families were prominent in the Presbyterian Church in early Mississippi. The papers are distributed by date as follows:
