Family letters of Elvie Flewellen of Wymton, Georgia, who married Lt. J. A. Shingleur in the fall of 1861. Includes eighteen letters from Lt. Shingleur who was serving in the Columbus City Light Rifles and stationed in Virginia. Other letters are from her mother, her sister Lizzie, cousin Julia, cousin William, brother Hugh, and Aunt Lea Harris. Of especial interest is Lt. Shingleur's description of the "rifle cannon" shell in his letter of June 17, 1861.
