TAMPLET (SARITA CAMPBELL) PAPERS
Letters and newspaper clippings of Mrs. Sarita Campbell Tamplet, Brenham, Texas, regarding the flag used by the Tombigbee Rifles, 1st Mississippi Regiment, during the Mexican War. The flag was preserved by Mrs. Tamplet's father, George W. Campbell, former ensign in the company. In 1893 it covered Jefferson Davis' casket when his body was removed from New Orleans to Richmond for reburial. It was returned to the State of Mississippi in February, 1903, and is housed in the State Historical Museum, Jackson.
