BARBER (BETTE E.) PHOTOGRAPH COLLECTION

Photographs taken in Mississippi and Louisiana by Bette E. Barber (1968), a native of Vicksburg, author, photographer, and newspaper woman. Miss Barber married Harry Hammer of Hammer Galleries, New York City, and lived in Scarsdale, New York, and Vicksburg, Mississippi.

Her collection of 139 photographs, Ol' Man River Road, was first exhibited at Planter's Hill, Vicksburg for the Mississippi River Highway Association, May 9, 1958. The collection was later divided between Belhaven College and the Mississippi Department of Archives and History. Some sixty of the pictures were exhibited at the State Historical Museum in April 1968.

There is a thirty-page mimeographed catalog with the photographs prepared by Miss Barber.
