POLK (MR. AND MRS. JAMES K., JR.) PAPERS


This collection is made up of letters written to Mr. and Mrs. James K. Polk, Jr., during the summer months while the Polk family was staying at Monteagle, Tennessee, the majority being written in 1960 and 1961. The letters are written by the servants left at Macon Plantation, Inverness, the principal writer being Margaret Davis. The collection consists of day-to-day reports on weather and crop conditions, the operation of the plantation, and routine household matters. A few of the letters are not identified.
