QUITMAN (JOHN A.) AND FAMILY PAPERS

Family letters, some items relating to the Mexican War period, newspaper clippings, genealogical data relating to the Quitman, Turner, Goffe, Lovell, McNealus, and Aylette families, photographs and prints, and fragments of typescripts and manuscripts. The majority of the family letters (1834–1859) are to and from F. Henry Quitman, son of John Anthony Quitman, while he was attending Princeton University and traveling in Europe, and from members of the Quitman family living in Rhineback, New York. Several of the letters from J. F. H. Claiborne mention the "Know Nothing Party" in Mississippi. A few of the clippings and letters mention the invasion of Cuba, and there is an imprint, "General Lopez, The Cuban Patriot", from The Democratic Review, for February, 1850.
