Xerox copies and typescripts of letters written by James E. Matthews and Samuel Matthews of Panola County to their sister and brother in California and Arizona. James E. Matthews (1799–1867) was Auditor of Public Accounts for the State of Mississippi from 1842 until 1847, his brother Samuel served as his Deputy, and their brother Joseph W. Matthews was Governor of Mississippi from 1848 until 1850.
