Letters, day books, account books, and miscellaneous memorabilia of Brevoort Butler, born January 15, 1846, at Natchez. He died at his home on Lake George, Enola, Yazoo County, Mississippi on November 11, 1908, and is buried in Glenwood Cemetery, Yazoo City.

Butler began collecting artifacts and Indian relics at an early age, served in the Civil War, became a successful planter in Yazoo County, and was a member of the American Archaeological Society. His early interest in relics continued throughout his life, and a special building was erected on his plantation for the housing of his extensive collection.
