Letter written by Captain Michael Martyn to Rufus Putnam, August 17, 1774, while living on the Amit [sic] River to Louisiana. References are made to the geographical conditions of the area, the disposition of lands owned by Martyn, the opening of new lands in Mississippi, and an expedition sponsored by General Lyman on the Big Black River in Mississippi.
