NORMAN (EARL M.) AND FAMILY PAPERS

Family letters, business correspondence, photographs, and seven studio registers are included in this collection. Private papers, which comprise the largest part of the collection, deal mainly with family hardship and sickness during the years of the Depression. The few scattered business papers are those of Norman Studios in Natchez and include insurance on photography equipment, fire insurance, invoices, work orders, and tax forms. Earl Norman (d. 1952) was the son of H. C. Norman, master photographer, who came to Natchez in 1870 from Louisville, Kentucky, where he had worked in photography. Of special interest are the assessments of the Knights of Pythias, in post card form, announcing the death of members and requiring $1.10 endowment by return mail to remain in good standing.
