MISSISSIPPI FOLKLORE SOCIETY RECORDS

The Mississippi Folklore Society was founded by Dr. Arthur Palmer Hudson, a native of Attala County, Mississippi, while a professor at the University of Mississippi. The Society was established on May 24, 1927. In 1966 Dr. George W. Boswell started a movement to reactivate the Mississippi Folklore Society: "to study folklore in general and to collect and preserve specimens of Mississippi folklore, ranging from proverbs and riddles to art objects and the process of their manufacture." The Society publishes quarterly the Mississippi Folklore Register, which is cataloged in the library. The collection contains programs for annual meetings, bibliographies and speeches presented to the society.
