This collection contains photocopies of material relative to the establishment of the American Red Cross chapters in the state of Mississippi; the work of the Red Cross in the state and in the Southern Division; classifications of Red Cross chapters; Junior Red Cross Program in public schools, 1936; county aid to indigents, 1937; dates of charters for Red Cross chapters, 1972.

Included is a copy of a letter from John Sharp Williams, dated October 11, 1928, to Miss A. B. Holmes, Yazoo County Red Cross, explaining the work of the Red Cross and denying any abuse of membership dues. There is also a report of hurricane Camille relief work, 1969.

Laura D. S. Harrell Sturdivant, Department of Archives and History, used this material in writing her chapter on medical services for the History of Mississippi.
