Z 1128.000 Davis (Jefferson) Speech

This undated manuscript is said to be the notes used by Jefferson Davis in his last speech to the Mississippi Legislature on March 10, 1884. The manuscript is in pencil, but written at the bottom is the following: "The above is recognized as the handwriting of your obt. sevt. Jefferson Davis 9th April 1888."

There are also a signed statement by John F. Allen, Goodman, Mississippi, January 20, 1960, stating that he witnessed Jefferson Davis make his last speech to the Mississippi Legislature, and transcripts of the actual speech, notes, and the House and Senate Journals relating to Jefferson Davis' visit. This material was transferred from the Department Subject File and processed in June 1972.
