RUSSELL (IRWIN) MEMORIAL COLLECTION


Copies of original papers in the Irwin Russell Memorial, Harriette Person Memorial Library, Port Gibson, Mississippi. Included is a letter dated October 4, 1878, from Russell to Samuel Bridges giving instructions for a yellow fever treatment. There are also copies from Scribner's Magazine, 1877-1879, in which were printed the first poems of Irwin Russell; a letter from James W. Wilson and an article by him entitled "Irwin Russell's Position in Southern Literature"; and an article from the Texas Review, October 1916, by Alfred Allan Kern, "Biographical Notes on Irwin Russell." Three drawings by Mrs. Irwin Russell and her daughter, Mary; and a letter and two brochures from Port Gibson Collegiate Academy are in the collection, as well as negative photostats of pictures of several of Russell's Thespian Association members, friends and relatives.
