RAY (CARL A.) CAMPAIGN SCRAPBOOK


Carl A. Ray, director of the Archives and Library Division, Mississippi Department of Archives and History, is a native of Webster County, graduated from Mississippi State University and taught school for six years. He was also assistant director of the Department of Archives and History and later admissions counselor at Belhaven College. In 1963 Ray ran for Chancery Clerk of Webster County and was defeated by less than one hundred votes. In 1967 he again announced his candidacy but withdrew before the qualifying deadline. This scrapbook contains newspaper clippings, campaign material and letters from friends concerning the campaign. Included is one letter from Rubel Philips to Ray, July 23, 1963.
