BROWN (J. T.) PAPERS


J. T. Brown was born in Virginia, graduated from the law school at the University of Mississippi with an LL.B degree and was admitted to the bar. He served as attorney for the State Banking Department from 1917 to 1937. In 1933, he was elected president of the Capital National Bank in Jackson, which later merged with the Jackson-State National Bank to form the First National Bank of Jackson in 1949, of which he was elected president. He was elected representative from Hinds County in the State Legislature from 1940–1948. Brown was also appointed to the Federal Reserve Advisory Council of the sixth Federal Reserve district in 1946.

This collection consists of a selection of twenty three articles, lectures, and speeches of J. T. Brown, Jackson, Mississippi, most of which deal with economics and banking. Also included is a table of contents.
