Lily Wilkinson Thompson was born in Crystal Springs, Mississippi. She was the daughter of William Clements Wilkinson, a native of Ireland, and Gabrielle Flowers Gaines Wilkinson, who was born in this state. Her education was completed at Whitworth College.
