MISSISSIPPI PRESS ASSOCIATION COLLECTION


Biography/History:

The Mississippi Press Association was first organized during Reconstruction at a meeting of newspaper publishers in Jackson on May 15, 1866. The first regular meeting of the association was held in Jackson on June 6, 1866. This organization of Mississippi journalists is still active.

Scope and Content:

This collection consists of a program from the Mississippi Press Association Diamond Jubilee Convention, June 12-14, 1941; a copy of The Mississippi Press, June 13, 1941; and various photographs. There are also three 16 mm. positive microfilm rolls containing Mississippi Press Association-related information, 1868-1955.
