Receipt of William Ratliff for goods bought from W. J. Mosby and Company, October 19, 1871. William Thomas Ratliff was born September 16, 1835, in Raymond. He served as captain in the Civil War. At the close of the war, he became probate clerk and chancery clerk of Hinds County. In 1874 he and others organized the Taxpayer's League in Hinds County. He served thirty years as president of the board of trustees of his alma mater, Mississippi College. Here he organized the Hermenian Literary Society and was its first anniversarian.
