Joseph Rand was born in Franklin County, Alabama on February 22, 1844 and died at Griffin, Georgia on August 18, 1864. He was living in DeSoto County at the beginning of the Civil War. This diary gives a day by day account of the Civil War as seen by Joseph Rand, including battles, men wounded, and work details. Also at the end are comments by Dr. B. I. Wiley concerning this diary and the possibility of having it published.
