Dr. Philip Marshall Catching, son of Dr. Joseph Blair Catching and Martha Bridges Catching, was born on November 10, 1848, at Glenrose Plantation, near the present day site of Georgetown. He received his medical degree from the University of Louisiana Medical School in 1870. Dr. Catching practiced medicine in Georgetown and parts of Simpson County. His diary, dated January 4, 1879–December 20, 1907, contains information about weather conditions, crops raised, deaths of friends and relatives, and records of cotton picked and shipped.
