SMITH (GEORGE) AND MCKENZIE (JAMES) PAPERS


Photocopies of papers of George Smith and James McKenzie (George's brother-in-law). Both men were from the state of Illinois and served as Union soldiers during the Civil War. The following photocopies are contained:

  • eulogy on Andrew Jackson by James McKenzie, June 8, 1845
  • letter of George Smith to his sister, Hatt, in which he describes the battles of Grand Gulf and Port Gibson, and also mentions his visit to Windsor, May 6, 1863
  • a letter of George Smith to James McKenzie, which was transcribed in a newspaper article, telling of the fall of Vicksburg, July 4, 1863
  • a letter of George Smith to James McKenzie discussing the review of troops by General Grant, September 6, 1863
  • a genealogy of the Jim McKenzie family, 1911.
