DOWNS (LETTIE) COLLECTION


Journal and notebook of Letitia (Lettie) Frances Booker Vick Downs, daughter of John Wesley Vick and Letitia Frances Booker Vick. The journal contains entries by Mrs. Downs while staying at her father's plantation at Anguilla. The journal reflects the life style of the Vick family before, during, and after the siege of Vicksburg. The first entry is dated November 16, 1862, followed by February 9, 1863, and continuing until June 5, 1866. The journal also contains miscellaneous notes, lists and recipes.

The notebook, barely legible, was compiled by Mrs. Downs in 1859 and contains poems and a letter. Included is a typescript of the journal and notebook, with a table of contents and family background, by Alfred B. Downs and Nellie Clara Downs Harvey dated August 1976, and family genealogy compiled by Alfred B. Downs.
