KENNEDY (REVEREND J. WHITNER) MANUSCRIPT

Manuscript of "The Life of The Reverend Benjamin Chase, As Recorded In His Own Hand, In a Two Year Diary," written by Reverend J. Whitner Kennedy, April 1, 1963, at Natchez. Benjamin Chase, born at Litchfield, New Hampshire, November 20, 1789, was licensed to "preach the Gospel" at a meeting of the Presbytery in Jefferson County in 1820. In his diary written from 1863–1865, Chase gives accounts and highlights the events in his life. From this source, Kennedy found the material for his manuscript. Included in the paper is Chase's account of the effects of the Civil War on Natchez.
