Microfilm of a journal kept by Roswell Valentine Booth of Vicksburg. Booth was a lawyer, Confederate veteran, and one-time mayor of Vicksburg. He was born on June 9, 1838.

The journal, recorded in seven volumes, is entitled "Fugitive Thoughts or 'Pencillings by the Way.'" Topics covered in the journal include the yellow fever epidemic, the War in Europe, the Garfield assassination and obituaries, poems and speeches made by Booth in Vicksburg. Volume 2 of the journal contains The Story of My Life, written by Booth. The last entry in the seventh volume was written on January 1, 1915.
