Z 1697.000 Massengill (Julius) Mackey Washington) Civil War Letters

Photocopies of four Civil War letters written from Camp Whitfield near Columbus and from Saltillo. Three of the letters were written by Massingill to his wife, Sophronia Thornton Massingill, in Jasper County. The fourth letter was written by O. C. Thornton (presumably Massingill's brother-in-law) to his father, also in Jasper County. The letters speak of conditions in the Confederate camp and of the soldiers' yearning for home and family.
