Dubard & Company began business in 1900 as a general merchandise partnership between William Mitchell Dubard and his son William Vassar Dubard. At the time, there were about 2,000 acres in the plantation that William Mitchell Dubard owned and operated with the help of his son. The Yazoo & Mississippi Valley Railroad had just been built from Grenada to Greenwood and the post office, Dubard, was in the store. In 1907, William Mitchell Dubard gave his other son, Lewis Adam Dubard, his half interest in the business and the two brothers operated the business and farming interest together until August 1945, when William Vassar Dubard died.

On June 15, 1915, the post office at Dubard was discontinued. By this time the tenants on the farm were all beginning to move to the cities and towns, and machinery was beginning to replace the tenants on the farm. Dubard and Company ceased operations on January 1, 1956. These 39 volumes reflect the purchases made and credit extended to the tenants on the Dubard plantation.
