HAYS CREEK BAPTIST CHURCH (SCOTT COUNTY, MISS.) RECORDS

MDAH only has microfilm. (MF Roll # 36337)

The "Haises Creek Regular Baptist Church of Christ" was constituted on April 16, 1856, and was received into the Harmony Baptist Association the same year. Among the churches organizing the Mt. Olive Baptist Association in 1877 were Hays Creek and several others which had been dropped from the roll of the Harmony Association for refusal to be represented at its meetings. In 1879 and 1880, the Hays Creek church was troubled with various factions, each attempting to represent it at the association meetings. By 1885, the Mt. Olive Association had lost Hays Creek, which probably ceased to exist in the 1880s. The church names are listed variously as Haises, Haise, and Hayes in its own minutes and in the minutes of the Harmony Association. This volume is believed to be the only existing record of the church. It includes the organizational meeting, convent, abstract of faith, gospel order as amended, rules of decorum, minutes of church conferences, and a list of church members up to 1869.
