Henry Holifield served as Forrest County Campaign Manager for Carroll Gartin in the following political campaigns: 1951 campaign for lieutenant governor (successful); 1954 campaign for U. S. Senate (unsuccessful); 1955 campaign for lieutenant governor (successful); 1959 campaign for governor (unsuccessful); 1963 campaign for lieutenant governor (successful). The collection documents the role played by a county political campaign chairman in state elections. Covering a twelve year period and five campaigns, the correspondence illustrates campaign tactics and organization; while the bills, receipts and other papers document the costs of a state-wide campaign in microcosm.
