ROLL OF CONFEDERATE SOLDIERS FROM PONTOTOC COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI


This collection consists of a bound volume designed to hold 1935 Road Tax Receipts that has been used to contain a transcript of a roll book for Civil War Confederate enlistees from Pontotoc County. The volume is divided into six section that offer differing sets of information.

The first section is comprised of a roll of Confederate volunteers enlisting in Pontotoc County, in 1861 and 1862. Names of enlistees, ranks, regiments and companies are provided. Section two is for 1863 and generally offers names and regiments, but is less detailed than the earlier pages. Part three is entitled an Enumeration of Confederate Soldiers and Widows—1907. This section lists Confederate veterans in Pontotoc Co. as of 1907, or their widows. Also the district in which these people lived at the time is noted along with state of enlistment, regiment joined, age in 1907, and year of enlistment. The fourth part of the volume is a brief list of names on a Confederate Monument is an unspecified location. This provides companies and regiments for the soldiers also. Part five is a one-page list of World War II veterans buried in Pontotoc Co., Miss. Names, ranks, towns of local address, and cemeteries of burial are provided. The sixth portion is of no relation to the roll information, containing only blank Road Tax Receipts for 1935.
