HEIDELBERG (ROGER) COLLECTION, ACCRETION
Biography/History:
Roger Heidelberg was born in Laurel, Mississippi, in 1915. He was the son of John Oscar and Virginia Gray Heidelberg. Roger Heidelberg was a resident of Memphis, Tennessee, in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
Scope and Content:
This collection includes correspondence of Virginia Gray (Mrs. John O.) Heidelberg; her sister, Luella Gray (Mrs. William M.) Campbell; and their aunt, Ellen Crawford. The letters primarily concern family matters or life during World War I.
The printed materials consist of a 1917 program from a production of a Winston Churchill play entitled "The Crisis," which was performed the Century Theatre in Jackson, Mississippi; a September 1918 clipping from the Jackson Daily News containing brief arguments for or against the administration of Governor Theodore G. Bilbo; a June 3, 1920, issue of Vardaman's Weekly; and a December 4, 1920, issue of the Picture News, a weekly publication covering the film industry.
There is also a photograph of an unspecified relation of the Heidelbergs, Private James B. Allen, who served in the American Expeditionary Force during World War I. He appears in uniform at an unidentified location in France around 1918. Private Allen was probably a resident of Sallis, Mississippi.
