Biography/History:

The scrapbook is a "history" of the first Legislative Day for Women held on February 21, 1968. The day was organized by the Mississippi branches of the League of Women Voters, first organized in Jackson in 1946, and the American Association of University Women, first organized in Columbus in 1909. The stated purpose of the Legislative Day was "to present the League of Women Voters and American Association of University Women to their legislators and to inform the legislators of the objectives and scope of these organizations along with their concern for problems facing Mississippi." The organizations also sought "the enactment of the compulsory school attendance law and implementation of it."

Scope and Content:

The scrapbook contains newsclippings, correspondence, minutes, and printed material, which provide a record of the first Legislative Day for Women held on February 21, 1968. The volume is organized under the following headings: Planning, Preparation, Legislative Day Proper, and Evaluation.
