Scope and Content:
This volume consists of an unidentified mercantile ledger and a register of persons taking oaths of allegiance. The ledger contains accounts for individuals primarily residing in the Mississippi counties of Copiah, Madison, Monroe, Smith, Yalobusha, and Yazoo. Accounts are recorded for the time period between February 1853 and January 1854, and for January 1866. The store was possibly located in Jackson, Mississippi, because the register, contained within the ledger, lists people taking oaths of allegiance in Jackson. The oaths were administered by Captain L. C. Hubbard, post marshal, in accordance with the provisions of United States military rule. The oaths were taken May 25-27, 1865. Information on persons taking the oath includes name, residence, age, height, and hair and eye color.
