Biography/History:
According to information found in this volume, George W. Richey taught at various schools throughout the southeastern United States. He taught one year at Dover, Tennessee, beginning on September 8, 1826. Richey taught for six months in Columbia, Mississippi, beginning on January 1, 1828. He taught for two years at Mount Carmel, Mississippi, beginning on July 9, 1828, possibly at Mount Carmel Academy. This school was founded by John Ryan prior to 1830. Richey was last known to have taught in New Orleans, Louisiana, beginning on December 17, 1830.
Scope and Content:
This manuscript mathematics textbook was apparently compiled by George W. Richey. It contains lessons for simple addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, interest, profit and loss, foreign exchange, liquid measure, circular motion, and percentages, to name a few.
