FREEMAN (A. J.) DAYBOOK


Biography/History:

Andrew Jackson Freeman, son of Bailey and Dolly Freeman, was born on August 28, 1830, near Monticello, Jasper County, Georgia. Freeman married Sarah Jane Philips of Jasper County, Georgia, on February 14, 1850. The couple had nine children: Mary Lucinda, Roscoe Rudolph, Elmira Katherine, Walter Bryant, Carrie Finney, Georgia Loberta, Sallie Jackson, Willie Bailey, and Emily Jane.

Freeman was ordained as a Baptist minister in 1859.

The Freeman family moved from Georgia to near Decatur, Newton County, Mississippi, in 1877. A year later, they moved to the Midway Community, Newton County, and Freeman became pastor of Midway Baptist Church. Freeman served in the Mississippi Legislature as a senator from the Thirteenth District from 1892 to 1896. He died on June 2, 1897.

This collection contains a photocopy of the daybook of Andrew Jackson Freeman. The daybook contains family biographies, estate figures, and sermons dating from 1852 to 1881.
