PINOLA-STONEWALL CONSOLIDATED SCHOOL (SIMPSON COUNTY, MISS.) MINUTE BOOKS
Biography/History:
The Pinola School was founded in 1903, when Pinola Baptist Church (formerly Westville Baptist Church) moved from Westville, Simpson County, to the recently established town of Pinola, Simpson County, and opened a school. The Stonewall School was founded in 1913 by Stonewall Baptist Church in the Stonewall Community, which was located southeast of Shivers, Simpson County. The Pinola and Stonewall schools merged in 1932. The consolidated school added new classrooms and a combination cafeteria/gymnasium in 1934. The latter was destroyed by fire in 1950. In October of that year, the board approved the addition of new classrooms and offices and the conversion of an old canning plant into a cafeteria. The school continued to operate grades one through twelve until 1976, when junior- and senior-high-school classes were merged with New Hymn School, Simpson County. The expanded New Hymn School was renamed West Union School. Its junior- and senior-high-school classes were consolidated with the Mendenhall School System in 1986. The remaining elementary school was renamed Simpson Central School, and it was still in operation as of 2002.
