SIMS (JOHN H.) COTTON-EXCHANGE WARRANT
Biography/History:
John Hampton Sims was born in South Carolina on September 1, 1806. He was the son of Lizzie Sims. By 1833, Sims and his wife, Mary, were residing in Wilkinson County, Mississippi, and engaged in cotton planting. The couple had five children: John (b. ca. 1834), Elizabeth A. (b. ca. 1839), Robert G. (b. ca. 1839), Charles H. (b. September 19, 1840), and William E. (b. ca. 1843). Simss real estate in Wilkinson County was valued at $4,320 in 1850. He died on August 4, 1863, and was interred at the family cemetery in Wilkinson County.
Scope and Content:
This collection consists of a March 2, 1833, cotton-exchange warrant made out to John H. Sims in the amount of $1,799 at Woodville, Wilkinson County, Mississippi, in account with Reynolds, Byrne, and Company of New Orleans, Louisiana.
