Biography:

Celia Anne Mortimer Adams

Celia Anne Treleaven Mortimer was born on February 29, 1816, in Wareham, Dorsetshire, England, the daughter of Anne Davis (1796-1822) and John Bushell Mortimer (1785-1831). On April 24, 1838, Celia married William Adams, who was born on February 14, 1817, in Lebanon, Warren County, Ohio. The couple had eight children: Christiana A. Adams (1839-1927), Caroline “Carrie” Schan Adams (1841-1931), John Mortimer Adams (1843-1925), Clara M. Adams (1845-1904), William M. Adams (1847-1915), Margaret Adams (1850-1929), Samuel Adams (1853-1885), and Celia Marie Adams (1857-1904). Celia’s husband William died in 1866 and was laid to rest in Lebanon Cemetery, in Lebanon, Ohio. Celia Anne Mortimer Adams died on May 18, 1914, also in Lebanon, at the age of 97, and is buried in the same cemetery.

 

Scope and Content Note:

The collection consists of letters (typewritten copies) written to Celia Anne Mortimer and to William Adams of Lebanon, Ohio. Celia eventually marries William Adams.
