Miscellaneous manuscript material and account books of William Priestly, prominent Madison County merchant who served as mayor and postmaster of Canton, Madison County, Mississippi, and justice of the peace. The collection is of particular interest in the study of the place of the justice of the peace in a prosperous agricultural community in Mississippi during the antebellum period.
