Scope and Content Note:

Letters, papers, bills and receipts concerning the Willard F. Bond Tribute Fund Committee, which obtained money for a portrait of Bond honoring his many years of service to the state as State Superintendent of Education and Commissioner of Public Welfare.

The papers include correspondence of the committee chairman, B. P. Brooks, School of Education, Mississippi State College; Kirby P. Walker, Superintendent, Jackson City Schools; and Sam E. Woods, American Consul General, Munich, Germany; and other members of the Committee who solicited donations. Woods had worked with Bond in the Welfare Department and had arranged the trip to Germany for the painting of the portrait. Included in the collection is a brochure issued by the Committee showing the portrait of Mr. Bond that was painted while he was in Europe and a twenty-three page booklet entitled "Trip to Germany, June 1949, Address by W. F. Bond." There are thirty-two items (mostly letters to Marty Cunningham) from artists, museums and galleries regarding portrait artists and their fees.
