Scope and Content Note: 

Papers of John Logan Power (18341910) of Jackson. The bulk of the collection is correspondence, petitions, reports and financial statements accumulated while Power was Grand Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star (Mississippi). Two items are undated speeches of a reminiscent nature. The items from 1895 to 1901 deal chiefly with Confederate military history. Three letters pertain to the last days and death of J. J. Pettus: Mrs. Louis Raymond (Nov. 24, 1897) and Willie Pettus Lapsley (Nov. 20 and Dec. 10, 1897). One letter is from George Bancroft (Apr. 13, 1887), and seven are from Stephen D. Lee (Feb. 8 and Nov. 30, 1896; Nov. 11, 1899; Oct. 5, Nov. 8, 9, and 21, 1900).
