Scope and Content Note:

Letters, diaries and various military papers of Judge William A. Drennan, Lexington, who served as Assistant Adjutant General on the staff of Brigadier General W. S. Featherston, in General Loring's Division, under the command of General Joseph E. Johnston.

The diaries are in two volumes. Volume I, which is 20 x 25.5 cm. in size and contains 99 pages, covers the period from January 1 to April 17, 1862, and includes miscellaneous notes and accounts. Volume II, which is 17.5 x 22.5 cm. in size and contains 92 pages, is a diary kept during the siege of Vicksburg which covers the period from May 30 to July 3, 1863.

Also included in the collection are military orders, appointments, ammunition reports, ordinance reports, invoices, receipts and certificates in connection with the Thirty-third Mississippi Regiment; Form of Oath of soldier of CSA in 1862; notes signed by Hon. E. Barksdale, House of Representatives; and a commission signed by J. P. Benjamin, Secretary of War of the Confederate States of America at Richmond, February 17, 1862.
