Mary Gassaway Scrapbooks (Z/0198)
Scope and Content Note:
One scrapbook contains clippings from the New Albany Gazette, March 1956, which include a copy of the diary of James Bardin kept while making a covered wagon trip to California in 1855. James Bardin's wife was Mary Jane Collins, daughter of Moses Collins, founder of New Albany. The caravan of which they were members originated in Ripley, for the journey westward. The other scrapbook contains clippings from the centennial edition, 1940, of the New Albany Gazette, and written information about the Gassaway and Collins families of New Albany.
