Manuscript diary of Walter Alexander Overton, kept in Corinth, January 1, 1860, to May 28, 1862. The daybook in which it is written measures 6 by 15 inches, and is covered with marbled paper reinforced with leather.

Much of the diary was kept by Walter Overton, but in December, 1861, when he left to join the Confederate Army, his wife, Mary, assumed the chore of writing it. Their accounts describe the everyday life of citizens and their families in Corinth, Mississippi during the Civil War.
